Bromsgrove Rovers AFC were a talking point between several football minded people; Mark Whitehouse, Bryn Davies and Mike Gaffney.
Back in June 2021, it was decided to pursue setting up a new football club with several grassroots boys football teams representing the club colours and name.
Once a suitable location was discovered, their now home based at Hopwood Recreation Ground, a club badge, home and away kit were designed, greatly steered by the several hundred followers on Facebook in a vote and Bromsgrove Rovers AFC were born.
Since 2021, in just 2 full Seasons of football, initially starting with just 1 team, the entire Club has grown from strength to strength.
Season 2022/23 saw the Club expand with 5 Grassroots teams and an Adults team formed. A Summer Tournament took place boasting 48 competitive teams from all around The Midlands taking part. The Club also started a football development group, which created new opportunities for boys and girls within the Community and saw 2 new teams formed for the next season.
Prior to Season 2023/24, the Club excelled in holding it’s annual Summer Tournment seeing 98 teams compete in June 2023. A huge accomplishment indeed! The U14 represented the Club in the prestigious Nationals Tournament, losing out to Liverpool in the Semi-Final.
In addition to that, our U15 team were invited to compete the following week at The Nationals, another huge accolade and helping put the Rovers on the football map.
As we enter Season 2024/25, The Club can boast an Adults 1st Team, Adults Reserve Team, Girls U18, 12 Grassroots Boys Teams from U8 to U16 Teams, Little Rovers football development group for children aged 4-7 and Weetabix Wildcats Football Centre for girls aged 5-11.
The Clubs’ Official Facebook Page also has a FAN-tastic 1,200 followers to date.
On the playing location side, Rovers now have 3 locations; Stoke Prior Sports & Country Club in Bromsgrove, Hopwood Recreation Ground in Hopwood near Alvechurch and Charford Recreation Ground in Bromsgrove.
So many individuals give up their time to run The Club, manage and coach players of all ages and abilities there are too many to name to thank. One thing we have is a great football family.
