After months of hard planning, the club hosted its first Grassroots Tournament boasting 48 teams from across the West Midlands and Worcestershire.
Over the weekend of Saturday June 11th and Sunday June 12th 2022, football fever hit our home ground in Hopwood as we hosted our first ever Grassroots Football Tournament.
The weather was fairly kind to all players taking part, albeit the odd shower didn’t dampen spirits whatsoever. The whole event brought teams and Parents together from all over the Midlands with 4 age groups; U7’s, U8’s, U10’s and U13’s.
There was plenty to do with Football Darts being a massive hit for players and some Coaches too! 2 lucky boys went home with a replica Champions League Football and a replica FA Cup Final Football as prizes. Sponsors Regal Compost were showcasing their business and inviting children a release from watching football with the chance to experience potting plants for the first time, which went down very well with all ages.
There were mouthwatering refreshments on offer to all; from succulent burgers to sizzling hot dogs along with hot and cold drinks. There was even a visit from the ice cream man to put a smile on everyone’s faces and cool them down.
The football itself was played over 2 days and in quite humid conditions. It was a pure joy to see players, parents and managers arrive in droves from 09:00am both days, some smiling, some nervous but ultimately looking forward to wear their teams colours and play infront of a crowd.
Chairman, Bryn Davies commented, “None of this would have been possible without the planning and hard work from Club Secretary, Mark Whitehouse, along with the many other Volunteers who have helped prepare marking pitches, clean, make goals up, attend the car parks, steward, cook and serve drinks plus clear up in readiness for the following day to start allover. It was an emotional and monumental occasion for everyone connected to Bromsgrove Rovers AFC and has really put the club on the footballing map. I would also like to thank our Club Sponsors, MELT for sponsoring the event. Everyone has worked so hard to make this a fabulous occasion for all”.
Club Secretary, Mark Whitehouse also added, “It’s great to see all the teams come together and compete in the game we all love, football. None of these type of events would be possible without the people who give up their free time and volunteer. You all know who you are, and the Club cannot thank you enough. Many teams passed comments on how well run it all was and asked questions such as, When is the next one? It’s things like that that remind you you have done a great job and I am very proud to be apart of it all”.
Overall, the club estimated 600 visitors over the 2 days, plus players, making it a weekend to remember.
Here’s to the next one…
